It's like having your own personal research assistant.

This a fast way to find out where to look for the information you need.

Business & Professional Research

Research is the study or investigation of facts in order to learn more about a subject or to confirm a supposition. It can be done in the lab with a test tube or in the outdoors with binoculars and a camera. In today's business world, however, most research is conducted on the computer, over the telephone, or in books and periodicals. Our staff is experienced in researching everything from questions of basic knowledge to the most in-depth investigation and analysis of raw information.

The job of the researcher begins with a question and proceeds to find answers. The formulation of the right questions is crucial to success. We are highly skilled at developing these in just the right way to get at the information our clients require. Many times this information has already been researched and the answers published. We can quickly locate these results. When the questions have not been asked before, we look for published data that will let us extract the answers. When nothing is available, we will suggest the most cost effective approach to develop the information ourselves. More than 20 years of networking experience enables us to find answers quickly at the lowest possible cost.

Have a professional find the information you are looking for and organize the results the way you want to see them.

Current Awareness

Do you know what your competition is doing?

Do you know what your customers are thinking?

Are you aware of the latest industry trends?

We will search out, compile, and deliver the latest information on any subject.

For instance, we can:

Keep up to date on any subject by having the most important articles, studies, and information delivered to you each month.

Library Management

Do you find it difficult to maintain your reference library?

Do updates to your publications typically run two, three, or four months behind?

Do you have questions about whether you are providing the right materials?

If the answer is yes to any of the above, you may want to consider outsourcing the management of your library. Most professional offices rely on either a junior member of their professional staff or a clerical worker to maintain their reference materials. Neither solution is satisfactory. Using one of your own professional staff is simply too costly and when that person is busy, your library will suffer. The alternative – using a clerical worker – can be equally disastrous; few have the qualifications to do the job right.

By using a professional librarian from Balkin Information Services, you will be able to find what you need, when you need it and at a price you can afford. We currently maintain professional reference libraries for numerous law firms.

Consulting and management services can be arranged in many areas of the country through our network of independent librarians and information providers.

Hire a professional to manage your professional library and save time and money.

Legal Industry Marketing Research

For more than 20 years, we have provided library management, information services and consulting to both attorneys and the legal publishing industry. This is the foundation upon which we have built our business. Our broad, diverse network of contacts gives us a perspective of the marketing factors at play within the legal arena.

We are in a unique position to help:

We understand and track the trends and differences in law firms of all sizes; provide advice to both attorneys and pbulishers as to where to place advertising in order to reach their target market; assist clients in developing ideas for new products and services; help legal publishers present their products in their best light; design and conduct telephone and written surveys; aid legal vendors in getting the most out of their trade shows; and track trends in requests for information by attorneys according to size, area of practice, and location around the country.

This is your source for information, consulting and marketing services for the legal publishing industry, legal vendors and attorneys.

Proofreading, Editing and Fact Checking

The quality of your documents reflects upon you and your business. Poor sentence structure, punctuation, spelling and grammatical errors can be embarrassing and costly.

Proofreading and Editing are two different parts of the writing process:

"Editing involves checking the content of the text to ensure that the ideas are expressed clearly and logically, and form a coherent and meaningful whole." We will check for sentence structure and clarity. Citations will be verified.

"Proofreading involves checking over the text in finer detail after the editing stage, to detect errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar and form."

Warning: Spell check and grammar checks on the computer are notoriously unreliable.

"When proofreading your own work, you are often so familiar with the text that you see what you think you have written rather than what you actually wrote. For this reason, you will get the best results by asking someone else to proofread your work."

Using our research skills, we will verify written information in your document. Types of information can include: dates, figures, and historical data. Also: directions, sources, names, spellings, etc.
